With the four sides of the drawer ripped and
cut to size, it was time to create the dados in which the drawers would
slide. Since the hidden drawer fits snugly between the support legs, a
small piece of walnut was cut to attach to each side of the Jewelry Box, on
which this dado would slide.
With dados cut into the two sides, the back of
the drawer needs one to precisely match. It's simply a shallow notch
cut into the edge of the back of the drawer so it will fit into the side
support as shown.
Here you can see that to make the rabbet on the
back of the drawer, I simply measure the maximum distance from the fence to
the blade, and "nibbled" the material from the piece. The width of the
rabbet is the thickness of the side of the drawer.
Here you can see the four sides of the drawer,
including the plywood bottom clamped up. This completes this part of
the Hidden Drawer construction.
